TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) International Mexico is located in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, probably one of the most welcoming and hospitable towns in Mexico, in the highlands of the southern Mexican state of Chiapas.
Surrounded by mountains and at 7,200 feet, San Cristóbal is noted for its well-preserved colonial architecture as well as many cultural jewels such as churches, galleries, street art, independent cinemas, museums, workshops, and artisans’ markets. There is a wide range of shops, sidewalk cafés, bakeries, bars and restaurants that help create a laid-back, bohemian atmosphere with a magical touch. It is home to the largest indigenous market in northern America, where the Maya people from surrounding villages come daily, in their colorful traditional clothing, to sell fruit, vegetables and crafts. The Pacific Ocean, the tropical rainforest and Guatemala are all reachable within a few hours.
In San Cristóbal you can choose from a variety of vegetarian, Mexican, Italian and Asian restaurants, European-style cafés or try some local cuisine in small eateries all over town. At night you can enjoy a range of live music in different venues.
Situated in the very center of town, TESOL International Mexico can be easily accessed on foot. From our school, most places of interest or necessity are reachable in just a few minutes.
